Celebrating the 2024 Virginia Governor's Cup Winners

Virginia Winery Distribution Company

The 2024 Virginia Governor's Cup has once again brought the spotlight to the state's burgeoning wine industry, showcasing the diversity and quality of wines being produced across the Commonwealth. A staggering selection of over 750 of the finest Virginia wines were meticulously sampled by world-class judges, culminating in the awarding of 138 Gold Medals to 79 deserving wineries.

Diversity is the hallmark of this year's gold medalists, with awards spanning seven regions, seven vintages, and an impressive twenty-six grape varieties—all proudly grown in Virginia's fertile soils.

Here are the highlights:

  • Central Virginia emerges as a standout region, clinching an impressive 48% of the gold medals.

  • Virginia red wines steal the show, commanding over 55% of the total gold medals.

  • White wines make a significant impact, comprising a little over 31% of the gold medals. Virginia Chardonnay stands tall, earning 14 gold medals.

Congratulations to the 2024 Virginia Governor's Cup winners. Let's toast to our fellow VDWC winery members who have been honored with Gold Medals.
